The Karma of Love
Written on 5 March 1985
I remember when the sparkles in your eyes could
light up the world surrounding you.
I remember how I wanted you.
Just for a few moments of your touch.
Now my heart is in remorse and dismantle.
Every time I think of you.
How you made every moment so special.
I feel weaken.
Now your smiles are rare.
Your beautiful blue eyes lost their sparkles.
You are living alone in a wasteland of loneliness.
Hiding all your pain.
I taught you.
Maybe your life wasn’t so tough.
But your heart was tender.
Easily broken.
And me.
I was just after another conquest.
Another heart to add to my hunger.
Never to be fulfilled.
You won.
After I left you.
Your beautiful face.
The memories of your tears.
Left me empty and dead.
Now I dreams I left you smiling.
Laughing for our love would never
end for you.
You would be my brightest star.
I would be there to hold you when you
were afraid.
I awake alone.
Seeing the damage done to you.
Was done to me.
I called you.
I told you. “I’m sorry.
I would come back.
I miss and love you.”
You whispered.
“Thank you.
I’m alright.
It is too late.
I have nothing left to give.”
So funny.
I realizedĀ I stole all your dreams.
I also lost my dreams the morning I left you
in our warm bed.
To conquer another poor woman.
Leaving you with my heart.

I feel your pain in this poem, the mourning for yourself and for her, the cruelty you have served her and to you, maybe more to you, because you realized it sp suddenly as if in a shock. Your pain in the poem, it feels so real
Some lesson are taught and I learn as a a young man. Best to be kind in love. You will pay a price for being cold in love and life. Thank you for the comment.
gosh! This was so sad and made a painful reading…
Writing helps us to move forward whilst unpicking events and related emotions. We are lucky to be given a gift. Thank you.
Damn it will you stop making me cry ! this was exactly how it was with the demise of my marriage… I need to send this to my ex.
Beautiful poem John! When I read this I realized why I can’t really go back to old journals detailing my life with my ex-husband….pandora’s box needs to stay shut.
love was not the lover’s triumph
it was the love that lived eternally, moments lost in youthful times
it was the touch inside the heart, the unsung song
the melancholy..her tears dropped once and dried too soon
my heart bleeds till today profusely
you can not see, I bled and died
so many times before your eyes
But, I remember the way I left
my love unkept..untouched
My goodness what a beautiful poem of regret… I felt that poem… Well done…
Regret is the best poetry. I like the old timers of literature. Many lessons learn from people who lived a long and hard life. Thank you for the comment.
This is true… Hard luck produces excellent poetry!!
Yes, and age can give us the compassion to forgive ourselves too. Love the rawness expressed in your words. Peace to you.
Your comment is true. A wise person tried to be kind to the people who offer love and friendship. Thank you for the comment.
It breaks my heart to read your poem. I have recently spent time standing alongside a wonderful young woman who was not cherished by the man she was with. Nothing will be the same for her again – but the wonderful young woman says, now, that the man offered her an opportunity – the opportunity to value her own goodness and to be free when a man who loves that goodness within her comes into her life. I hope she does not have to wait too long.
It is a old poem. I learn from mistakes. Rarely are we offered true gifts of love. I hope your friends find real happiness. I tell the young people. Take your time. Mistakes can leave us in a bad place. Thank you for the comment.
That’s for sure! Great guidance about taking your time. The wonderful young woman is doing just that. I hope she is well rewarded. I was hugely surprised to have a second chance after a challenging 30 year marriage. The marriage was a great training ground for how to do better as a partner and how to choose better.
love is the essence of life. Its always there deep down——-sometimes shoots like arrow piercing our heart sometimes sleeps into deep slumber——–but its there always
I like the way you express John
Thank you for the comment. Age teaches us to kinder and wiser. Too bad most of us learn by mistake.
