Do we care? (A old poem. Someone told me I was foolish today. For disliking weak leaders.)
Do we care?
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
Another mother tried to kill her children. She had no food. They had no shoes. Something is wrong with the USA. The children in the end. They died. Someone told me today. We have great leaders. Are they blind?

LAREDO, TX (KGNS/CNN) – A desperate Texas mother who was denied food stamps is dead after taking a state welfare worker hostage and then taking her own life.According to police, Rachell Grimmer walked into a Laredo, TX welfare office with her two children Monday and pulled a gun. Over the course of the seven-hour standoff, Grimmer released her hostage but then fatally shot herself and wounded both of her children.
“They were all barefoot,” said Esther Jaimes, who saw the family waiting at a gas station in October. “They looked dirty, like they hadn’t showered in days, and the little girl was holding a puppy.”
“They were just looking around just trying to see if anyone would help them or something,” she said.
The family of three moved to Laredo in July and lived in a small RV in extreme poverty.
“She was in a desperate need for help in order to feed her children, which I witnessed needed food and shelter,” Jaimes said.
Grimmer’s two children are in critical condition at a San Antonio hospital.

Do we care?
One more life is lost.
I’m pissed off.
A mother desperate for help.
Chose death for herself and children.
Is this the USA?
The woman was barefooted and her children too.
Hungry and desperate the mother tried to kill her children
and took her own life.
People who saw her.
Said she just wanted food and help.
I’m sadden and I must do something.
No excuse for one child to be hungry.
No excuse for one mother to be homeless.
In the LAND OF THE FREE.
The leaders got a big pay raise.
1.2 billion for house Rep. to eat and sleep.
Every leader in Texas need to be held accountable.
Every person who knew this woman should have done something.
1.2 trillion on police actions.
People need real leaders.
I can’t think.
I don’t understand?
How did we allow this mother to think death was better then
life for herself and her children?
It is time.
For the USA to demand common sense.
Before me or you could be standing with nothing.
Hungry and desperate.
I pray someone would aid you.

This is a message to all the leaders of the world. Its Poverty abounds and yet they still find some god old cheddar to fill their stomachs with… Very sad…
Your words are true. Here in the USA our Congressman get 1.2 billion to live on. 435 men and woman with a budget for food and office of 2.3 million each. Some districts have 50% unemployment and they live like kings. It is very sad. A good leader will celebrate and suffer with their people.
As always my friend, your words are stark reality, and from the heart. All over our country… all over the world, there are stories of sadness, need, and desperation. Our government has been arrogant and corrupt for too long, and we have been a sleeping nation. It is time to awaken, make changes… time to take action.
I hope we awake soon. I believe time is short for the USA if we don’t get wiser. Thank you for the comment.
The most pathetic thing is all the failed opportunities there were to help her and the children.
Beautiful poem.
I agree. The lady who turn her down. Said they made mistakes on her application. I try to call her myself. I believe the cold states do a better job for the poor and homeless then the warm states. Here in Michigan. Donations run the homeless shelters and the kind churches. Thank you for the comment.

Woman do not spontaneously have children. At some time a man was involved in the creation of those children. Where is he now? Why is he not being held accountable? Single mothers are not the victims of circumstance, they are the result of a culture that prizes promiscuity over commitment. Somewhere there is a man, or men, who abandoned those children. Why isn’t anyone talking about the responsibility that fathers have to the children they sire?
When death by starvation is involved. The only action is to feed and house. Then get social security card number of the father. I work in a 24 hour store. I have homeless men and woman who stay in the bottle room to keep warm because people don’t want to see them. Today 30 million people will go to bed hungry. No real jobs. Part time jobs with little opportunity is in the want ads. Half my customers pay with bridge card. Here in Detroit. 50 per cent unemployed. California had almost same debt as the country. In 1963. my mother walk into a welfare office. In two hours we had a place to live and food to eat. Father was in prison. We can spend half our budget on war. How about create jobs and opportunity? Many reason to be down and out. Yesterday two large Michigan companies closed it doors. 1200 more people with no jobs. Time for this Government to fix it house first before trying to save the world with bad checks. I pray for better days. We need a miracle.
I heard on the news the other night that the Pres. Of UCF is getting a pay raise boosting his already high pay to over 400k per year, the news reported the funding is largely from private donations to the University…okay…what is wrong with this picture? wow. and we have people killing themselves because they can not figure a way out nor find anyone to help them figure out a way out of their seemingly doomed circumstances.
Disturbing and the real blatant truth that we face everywhere
I know. I wish for a better place for all children. No-one should go to sleep homeless or hungry. USA spend 1.2 trillion on war. Could feed the world. I don’t understand how anyone can turn away from a desperate person? Thank you for the comment.
yep. the land of the free where too many translate that as free to ignore those in need. main thing to look at is the scope of hardship to endure, and how as you go down the ladder, more and more is asked to gain less and less. degrees of shame for ones own poverty go through the roof, to where a person decides death is easier than fighting for something that should be offered freely by one of your own tribe, by your village. by your people. so what has placed such barriers between us? for to even GIVE is then made a great effort and so complicated that more burden is placed on the kind-hearted simply to remain where they can help.
I was lucky. I traveled the world with the military. In the village in Honduras where I visit often. The Church on Sunday would gather food and water. Deliver to the people in need.Your words are true. The people must take care of the poor. Here in Detroit. The kind churches feed 80-100 thousand weekly. By donations and volunteers.. I pray for better days. Thank you for reading.
You live in Detroit? If so, hello neighbor. God bless.
Hello neighbor. Thank you for your thoughts in your blog. Need people to try to keep the truth alive.
Pure desperation for a mother to take her children and her own life. That she thinks there is no hope and death is preferable breaks my heart. Where is the love? Why could no one help?
I was driving home last year. This story brought me to tears. Some thing happen in Atlanta in the same week . Woman killed three children and herself. No excuse for anyone to go hungry. I pray for better days. Thank you for reading.
