A Poem by Coyote Poetry
Kind people leave us with kind memories and show us how to live.
Do we know when the final goodbye is?
Did we tell the people we loved? They saved our life many times and gave us reasons to be alive.
Old faces and words appear. Whispering to me.
You are going to be alright.
In the past. I had no place to go.
A kind friend and family accepted me in.
Made me part of their large family.
Gave me a place to feel safe and to rest.
The good father gave me advice and treated me like his son.
Jerry never asked for nothing and shared his laughter.
I remembering playing card games into the night.
A house is a home when it is filled with love and laughter.
I tried to be like him.
Sweet and beautiful Shoni.
Never a negative word.
Allowed me to sleep on her couch for months.
Never asking why I had no place to go.
Love and kindness is the base of a family.
I wished I thanked Jerry.
He was a mountain of a man with a large heart.
One day I will thank him.
Love is simple.
A open door and speak softly even when you do not want to.
Thank you Shoni. You are a mother to me.
Love create love. Kindness birth more kindness.
Coyote
Lovely words, John. So true that love and kindness go a long way.

Beautiful John. You were most fortunate. That is not to discount your trials but that you found acceptance.
So many of the “wounded” never had someone reach out to them to accept them and let them know they were accepted and loveable.
There is a from the movie “Pretty Woman” when Julia Roberts tells Richard Gere that When all you hear is the bad stuff, that is what you believe and you can’t believe the good. Some never get the “good stuff”. Sometimes, it comes too late.
Letting go is never easy but it is imperative. I beat myself up for a very long time that I wasn’t with my daughter when she died. Yet, we both knew and had both said our goodbyes. She taught me about letting go.

Some lost is part of us. Like your daughter. We need many good people for us to survive and give us reasons to go forward. Thank you for reading and the comment.

Great poem and great topic. Family values are at the core of who you are and you should always treasure your family their the number one priority, just really sunk in to my tiny brain a couple of months ago and 30 years too late. I just wrote a piece on that on the blog, good thing always reading one of your writings.
