For Ben Johnson. Writer, Poet and actor.
For Ben Johnson. Writer, actor and poet.
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
Dryden introduced Ben Johnson to me. Writer, Poet and Actor. 1573-1637.
To write
To become a good writer.
We must read and read some more.
Write, create and test life.
A empty life will leave a blank sheet of paper.Good men
Good men are quiet men.
Men who want credit and to be honored.
Do it for the glory, not for humanity.
Word-men
Thank you ancient writers.
The Dryden, Ben Johnson, Virgil and Dante.
The Jack London, Kosinski, Hemingway and Nevil Shute.
What would we know about courage without Helen Jackson.
What would we know of love without the sweet words of
Neruda.
Love, history and great life would be forgotten if the ancient and new writers, poets and artist do not create.
Pick-up a book. Travel, dream, cry and laugh. Thank you Word-men and Word-women.I hope you enjoy Ben Johnson quotes. May lead you to better places to read and write?
Thank you
Coyote/John Castellenas
“To the old, long life and treasure; To the young, all health and pleasure.”
Ben Johnson
“Bad men excuse their faults, good men will leave them.”
Ben Johnson
“I think that I shall never see A poem as lovely as a tree. . . . . Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.”
Ben Johnson
“To speak and to speak well, are two things. A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks.”
Ben Johnson
“Weigh the meaning and look not at the words.”
Ben Johnson
Drink to me only with thine eyes,
And I will pledge with mine;
Or leave a kiss but in the cup,
And I’ll not look for wine.

I never realized that my dad quoted Ben Johnson all the time! Thanks John.

He was amazing. He was called the father of the great English poets. He motivated many of the greats. He is one of my favorite. Your father must of been a man who enjoyed the word.

Yes. Dad could’ve been a poet or novelist. You know the kind, give them a topic and they can create on the spot, but he said he never wanted to work that hard. Wonder what he’d think of my blog?

Jonson is one of my favorite playwrights. He shared the drama stage marketplace with Shakespeare and Thomas Middleton with gusto. I love his Volpone, the Fox. I’ve even included his work in my own fiction. What could be better for a first date than a night at a theater featuring a play by Ben Jonson?
He was quite a character. I’m so glad you’ve found him for your own pleasure, John. 🙂
