For Grandpa (Happy Father’s day)
For Grandpa
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
Happy father’s day
(Written for my Grandfather in June of 1980. Was posted in his kitchen till his death.)
Time had surpass.
I have growth from a small lad.
I was always dragging my small feet behind you.
Now I’m a man and your love and feeling of safeness is still with me.
I will remember your lectures and sitting close to you listening to the stories of the good days and family.
I miss the days of sitting in the warmth of your home and hearing your laughter.
The memories of the New Years eyes where you celebrated with your friends and laughter still give me strength to struggle on.
Whatever I do or accomplish in my life will be filled with the memory of your love and concern if I graduated or received a award.
I hope to have many more days to share with you. To sit and be quiet and listen to your voice.
Life will move on and the love you taught me for family will never be forgotten.
It there was a way for me to thank you with gold. I would buy it.
I know in your mind. I honored you by returning the love and standing on my two feet and accomplishing something worthwhile.
Thank you Grandpa. I will try to be like you. A calm voice in the world of chaos.
(Dear Grandfather died in 1998)

Words on paper still have value. I often look at notes from my father and grandparents and touch the handwriting. I feel as if I am still touching them sometimes.

My father sucked big green ones sorriest excuse for a man I ever seen. Lazy. Abandoned his wife and 5 children, ran off with other woman, drank like a fishes abused my older brother and barely ever worked.

My father had 5 wives and 11 kids. He raised none of us. Thanks to my father. Made me work hard to be a good father. We learn by the mistakes of others.

How are you kind Catnip today? I have a quiet house and time to write and read. We can’t allow the negative folks to make us feel bad. We must find the good in life.

I keep your journal nearby. I keep reading it. It’s so lovely l fear changing it. I spend a great deal of time alone. I hate it. I miss having another warm body in the same room. I’m tired of echos.

It’s beautiful. Your one of three most passionate men I know. To be in the same bed at night even if just sleeping there is a feeling of comfort and security and warm togetherness that that I cannot even describe. It’s the best feeling and can’t even describe it and I miss it.

You are right. When two people learn what is truly love and needed. They gained wisdom. I need to relearn some old fashion wisdom. Easy to forget, hard to be reborn.

You are so wonderful I can’t believe your really real. I keep pulling back. I dated a married guy once. He had a situation at home, he could never leave her due to her illness. A good man. But splitting like to tore me up. I had to get over him. It wasn’t good for me or him. He told me he would never leave her. I don’t blame him. It was the right thing.
