Peace, sweet peace
Peace, sweet peace. We have forgotten you.
A Poem by Coyote Poetry

I’m tire of war. Where are the men and women of peace? Where are the calm voices in a world gone mad?
One must look hard through history to find when a clear understanding of the truth moved anyone to fire the first shot. ~Robert Brault, rbrault.blogspot.com
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
~Seymour Miller & Jill Jackson, “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” 1955
You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist. ~Golda Meir
In the name of peace
They waged the wars
Ain’t they got no shame
~Nikki Giovanni
I call upon the scientific community in our country, those who gave us nuclear weapons, to turn their great talents now to the cause of mankind and world peace: to give us the means of rendering these nuclear weapons impotent and obsolete. Ronald Reagan
Peace, sweet peace. We have forgotten you.
Peace, sweet peace. Where have you gone?
Where is the Utopia of where all people are safe.
Art and well being is the concern of great lands.
Where children can grow-up without fear or death near.
Great countries send drones to kill.
They train and teach their young to fight and kill.
Teach them blood before love.
Teach them hate before peace.
Teach to kill before they can think or figure out right from wrong.
Powerful men sit in Washington. Eating raw meat. Blood dripping from their mouths.
They spend 560 billion on war. Lobbyist paying the politicians to give money to
the contractors living off the death of Soldiers and the enhancing of war by people
with no concern for the people involved.
Arise soldiers who fought in the old wars. Forgotten promises of peace became just myth.
The great graveyard to ensure peace. Just graves of forgotten warriors who died for the rich to get richer.
My child had knew war everyday of her life. I have known war for the most of my life. I accepted
war as norm too till.
I stood at Death valley and Bosnian. I saw what war was. Just poor men and woman dead for the greed of
oil and profit. I have seen the starvation in Africa. It could be fixed if someone cared. If we spend 10% of war budget for hunger. Maybe one in four children won’t go to bed hungry in the USA. 2.6 million kids won’t die of hunger and sickness in Africa this year.
The rites of war. Leaders in Washington sending weapons to friends and fro.
Watering hateful men with weapons and guns. Are we the killers my friends?
He who gives the weapon to people for murder. Are we the Killers?
Peace, sweet peace.
Where is the million person demonstrations against war?
Where are the leaders who understand history and the world thoughts.
War doesn’t bring peace. Kill my father. I will honor his memory with the blood of the enemy.
Kill my family. I will fight till I’m dead.
Destroy my cities and I will rise-up and kill the Barbarians upon my land.
Sending 100,000 soldiers isn’t a sign of peace. You are the enemy now.
My friend daughter killed in Iraq is getting marry. He died in a police action in 2004.
I don’t discuss her father or the war. All I can say is.
“Your father would be proud of you. You have grew-up tall and beautiful.”
I hate war. I hate politicians who create demons and ghost. I know the world isn’t perfect.
White, brown, yellow and red must stand together. One people and one planet.
Black mama told the media back in 2009. She was sorry her son killed the young girl in
North Carolina. She told the press. She took him to the V.A two times and was rejected.
Poor Iraq Veteran killed a college girl and didn’t know why. War can be far away. It will come home
and touch us. When war is alive and well. It is closer than you think.
Government trying to create ghosts and new enemies to blindside us. I have news for the people who don’t know. There have been Arabs in the USA for many moons. They are good people. Remember what we did to the
Japanese in WW2. We locked them up.
Religion isn’t the separation. It is money my friend. Are we going to wait for more dead Americans to
stand against war? Utopia is simple. Respect. Send food, water and medicine. A eye for a eye world
will leave us all dead. I want my children, my grandchildren and all children of this world to go to bed
knowing they are safe and sound.
I have been told I’m a dreamer. I’m not the only one. I dream of a day when I can close my eyes.
Knowing I stood for peace.
If you didn’t stand for peace. When the war become near. Don’t cry out in disappointment.
You were part of the problem for doing nothing.
“World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion.”
Coyote/John Castellenas
To quote Edmund Burke: “There is, however, a limit at which forbearance ceases to be a virtue”, eg: http://history.hanover.edu/hhr/94/hhr94_5.html. Thank you for a most interesting and thoughtful post.

I saw the death camps. They still had the smell of death 30 years later. Hate didn’t decrease. It expanded. The words on the walls of the camp were. “Never again.” Russians started killing million within days of the war ending. This is sad.

It is sad, John. I spent a year in Germany, I didn’t visit the death camps, this was in 1993. We were at Bitburg with the military. I appreciate your view and agree wholeheartedly that the world is in turmoil and I too long for peace. Thank you so much.

You said it so beautiful, like you always do. These days is hard to find peace deep inside our hearts, not to mention finding it in each other. Still, we cannot give in to hate, rage or revenge…Yesterday I heard a group of children praying for peace in the church. It was a spontaneous gesture, they held each other hands and the sound of their voices gave me hope. I wanted to share this with you, you’re an inspiration and a source of strength and peace to me.
Blessings,
Carissa

Many want peace. We need to raise our voices above the people who want separation and hate. Prayer is the first step. The children will teach the adults to know kindness and love again.

I agree that peace is not just the mere absence of violence and that it should start from within. It got me thinking though, one won’t appreciate peace as much or wouldn’t even know the real meaning of peace if there isn’t war within or outside of oneself. It is light unappreciated in the open and something that becomes a “need or perhaps a luxury” in the darkness.
Thank you for this post. Anticipating for the next one. – Ember

Thank you Ember. The best peace activist are the people who saw and lived in war. They know the cost and they are no victors. The best book I read was written by a decorated USA officer David Hackworth “About face”.

I will look into it. Thank you for sharing this book. Although I don’t want to be pessimistic or anything, just being realistic. I believe peace is not an event. It is a process which can only come to fruition when everybody agrees on one thing, everybody moves in the same direction, and everybody thinks and understands the same thoughts. Otherwise, it will be a never-ending process. Nonetheless, one can never stop hoping for the best.
Best regards,
Ember

The “peace” should always start within us, the influence of remembering “peace” will follow.

Old world need a time to meditate and think. Who is winning? Why are we fighting? Enemy, friend and lack of concern will pay for the sin of hate. I pray we learn. Heal, not kill. One world and one people.

What a beautiful perspective. I think it’s like Mother Teresa said, we have forgotten that we belong to each other. The people of the world have forgotten that we need peace, so we can pass on this world to our children and grandchildren. War does not bring peace; and with all the nuclear bombs that have been produced, what would be the point of destroying the earth, just to be “the winner”? It’s a time for peace. More need to raise their voices and say enough. Enough of the politics, enough of the fighting, enough of the lies. Peace, we, the people of the world, need peace.

Yes you are right. Will take a billion people to stand-up for peace for this dream to happen. I hope it can happen soon.
