When did you last lay down in the grass and look out at the sky and hills? When did you last go outside with no shoes on and feel the texture of the earth beneath you? Day to day we compartmentalise our lives, slip into masks that help us fit the roles we play. I dress for work and the costume of suit and tie is like a prop that reminds me to pretend that everything I will hear and say all day is significant and weighted with meaning. In fact I am well aware that most of my daily duties are mired in the sort of ridiculous pointlessness that could send me into a panic. I don’t want to think about the hours wasted, so I put on the mask, and pretend it is not happening as best I can.
