Helium Hearts – an ekphrasis

Artwork and words. Amazing.

Sui Generis

“Helium Hearts”- my artwork that the poem is based upon.

Perhaps it’s your gentle allure,
Or those eyes that draw me in,
But as I rise in yonder joy,
I burn in love and sin.

This love is lighter than the air,
Our souls call out in swoon,
If we no more on earth do meet,
We’ll both still have the moon.

For we are made of helium,
We’ll fly and dance and bleed,
It’s a heavy world we live in love,
I’ll follow, you take the lead.
