A Poem for 2021: Ring Out, Wild Bells by Alfred Lord Tennyson
A outstanding poem shared by a legend.
Ring Out, Wild Bells by Alfred Lord Tennyson
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind
For those that here we see no more;
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;

Greetings Johncoyote,
I hope the best for you and your loved ones.
I love Tennyson, actually I have a volume of “The English Poets” from Wordsworth to Tennyson it was published in 1917, it’s a “Students Edition” my copy is now 103 years…….it’s a hard copy which fit’s so snugly in the hand. I have collected Antique Books, I love them and a language which has been lost.
I just finished reading a poem by John Keats last night, an artist who passed away so young,only 26, but wrote much in the few years of his life.
Due to all the fraud, and dark forces at work in this world, to oppress the masses, who do not walk in truth, but violence……I shall leave these words from Keats;
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty, –that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”
“A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.”
The Lord bless you dear poet…….Thank you….

They are amazing writers. I have many books of the greatest writers. I read them at the beach in the Summer. Both Tennyson and Keats. Are outstanding.

I also like Wordsworth, his thoughts about the country and nature just takes me to the places in my imagination……where I can ‘dwell” in peaceful thoughts and longing…..

A very fitting poem for these troubled times–although it is sad to sing that everything Tennyson wanted to ring out with the old year is still with us over a hundred years later.
